Tour Plan #5 Stanley Park: Walking Tour
Start: 10:00 AM from the Westin Hotel lobby and return by 3:00 PM
Enjoy a 5.5 mile stroll around the Stanley Park Seawall and Lost lagoon!
Stanley Park Seawall Walk: The Stanley Park seawall was originally conceived as a precaution to erosion in the early 1920s. Though it took nearly six decades to complete the entire seawall, which rings the peninsula of Stanley Park, it was obviously well worth it as visitors and residents alike make this outdoor recreational facility the most popular activity in Vancouver. Its circular route racks up 5.5 miles or 8.85 km. Lost Lagoon Native Indian poet Pauline Johnson named this large pond. The waters of the lagoon once disappeared at low tide, but today it’s landlocked and a haven for wildfowl. Prospect Point Prospect is the summit of Stanley Park at 64 metres above sea level, and it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the North Shore. Across Burrard Inlet along the northern shore are docks, grain terminals, and huge piles of sulphur waiting to be loaded onto ships.
Lunch at the Teahouse at Ferguson Point
Price: $60.00 per person includes lunch ($30.00 value) and guide. Gratuities & taxes included
Minimum 10 people
Tour Plan # 6 North Vancouver
Lunch at The Beach House, Lynn Valley Park, Suspension Bridge and Ecology Center
Start: 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM
Lynn Canyon’s marvelous suspension bridge, from which visitors cast cautious glances at the water 150 feet (50 m) below, where it turns from placid emerald green to whipped-up whitewater in an instant. Despite the sturdy steel cables there’s always a slight feeling of dread, an uncertainty as to whether the footings will hold. This crossing is not for the timid, as the bridge bounces and sways. Trails follow both sides of the canyon and lead upstream to 30 Foot Pool and downstream to Twin Falls Bridge. A tall wooden staircase assists walkers and cyclists to venture north through the park from 30 Foot Pool to its borders with the Seymour Demonstration Forest. The Lynn Valley suspension bridge hangs 20 stories above Lynn Creek, offering spectacular views of Lynn Canyon. The 616 acre park is forested with lush second growth rainforest and streamside vegetation. The park contains many hiking trails varying in length and difficulty. http://www.dnv.org/ecology/index.htm.
